Château Wine and Design - Chateau for rent between the Gironde and the Dordogne region

A medieval chateau for rent

One of the things that makes Château Wine and Design such a special place is its mediaeval architecture. This property forms the west wing of the larger Château Luxury Heritage estate but can be rented on its own. Guests will enjoy total privacy at the smaller chateau and have exclusive use of the grounds and facilities, as the second wing of Château Luxury Heritage will not be rented out at the same time.

Château Wine and Design is situated between the Gironde and the Dordogne regions, with the Charente area also within easy reach. With an extensive selection of famous vineyards and historic monuments close by, it’s ideal for anyone with a penchant for wines and history. It offers the perfect combination of having plenty to see and do while providing a scenic setting for the leisurely lifestyle that the French do so well.

Step inside your very own castle for a very special stay!

The ground floor rooms – living room, lounge, dining room and kitchen - are spacious and pleasant, with original stone walls. The décor is low-key luxury in soothing, unintrusive colours that creates elegance, harmony and warmth. The living room and dining room are furnished with modern sofas and armchairs which contrast nicely with period fireplaces that now house efficient wood burners for extra warmth. The kitchen, too, has the aesthetic appeal of traditional timber beams and old stone walls and all the perks of beautiful modern fittings.

The past meets present theme continues outdoors. A careful selection of designer furniture brings the historic setting into the twenty-first century with style, with a large, heated 17m swimming pool to boot.

The castle’s historic character sets the scene for each room without being overbearing, and elegant, understated furniture creates an inviting feel.

The first floor comprises two spacious suites and a living room, and the second floor has a suite, a dormitory and a bedroom. The rooms are spacious and uplifting. The bathrooms are the most surprising aspect, and their resolutely modern design breaks away from the traditional style of the rest of the building. They are purpose-built multi-functional wooden cubes that are a pleasure to use.

A chateau with a great location

Château Wine and Design is located in a wine-growing village and the local producers will gladly open their doors to you. To get to the shops, take the beautiful country roads that lead from village to village. There is a delicious bakery just five minutes from your luxury rental, and a Sunday morning market less than 15 minutes away. Saint-Emilion, home to the famous Bordeaux wine of the same name, has a great variety of restaurants.

This property can comfortably accommodate four couples or three families.

Castle to rent with swimming pool, things to see and do nearby:

Beautiful gardens, chateaux and villages

- Les Jardins de Sardy are located between Saint-Emilion and Bergerac and are magnificent English and Florentine-style gardens. Stroll the gardens to admire the pastel-coloured flowers, fragrant plants, and enjoy the scenic views from the tea room. You can also taste the local Sardy wines while you’re there.

- Sainte-Foy-La-Grande is a mediaeval town that lies just beyond the Monbazillac, Duras and Saint-Emilion vineyards. It dates back to the 12th century and has the architectural and historical heritage to show for it.

- Vayres Castle used to belong to King Henri IV and has fabulous views of the Dordogne. Its grounds are officially classed as “remarkable gardens”. It’s a beautiful place for a stroll, and there is an outdoor scavenger hunt for children.

- Castelmoron-d'Albray, the smallest village in France, is worth a visit. It is a fortified village with quaint flowered streets. Attractions include the potters' market and a plentiful array of nativity cribs displayed behind windows or in the church.

- Périgueux is an Art and History Town. Visit the Saint-Front cathedral, the Vesunna history museum, the art and archaeology museum, the Roman Arena garden and the Mataguerre Tower. To get a better insight into the town’s past, take a guided tour of the city.

And then of course, there are the wine towns, such as Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux, Libourne, Bergerac. More details are provided on our Château Luxury Heritage page.

Local gastronomy

South-west French cuisine is simple, authentic and seasonal, with the perk being that each dish can be paired with a local wine. Specialities include entrecôte à la bordelaise, Bazas beef, foie gras, and lamprey à la bordelais. Follow up with sweet treats such as Saint-Emilion macaroons, pralines from Blaye, or little canelés and bouchons cakes from Bordeaux. South-west France is a foodie’s paradise where you’ll find great food and the best wines to be enjoyed against a scenic backdrop and a sunny climate. The ultimate French holiday !

Leisure activities

Sports and outdoor activities, canoeing, horseriding, golf, themed bike rides (such as the route taking in the Churches and Castles of Lussac – guides are available at the tourist office) and so much more make this region a great all-round destination for all.
