Chateau Heart of Gascony - Luxury rental with heated pool

A boutique property

This stunning French castle could be taken straight from the pages of a fairytale. Its majestic turrets and towers dominate the lands that lie beneath it, overlooking green hills and countryside for as far as the eye can see, right over to the Pyrenees mountains. The original building was built in the 14th century and has been altered over time to become the vast luxury property it is today. This is where the Curious George series of children’s books was dreamed up, after authors Hans Augusto Rey and Margret Rey took refuge at the chateau after fleeing Paris during the war in 1939. It was owned by a relative of Paul McCartney for a time, and has hosted many a famous guest.

A fully equipped rental

The chateau’s isolated location guarantees total peace and privacy. The immaculately landscaped grounds include a rose garden, a heated pool and a French formal garden, while the summer kitchen is reminiscent of Tuscany with its timber ceilings, arched openings and stone walls.

The interior is a delightful blend of traditional French elegance and modern luxury and convenience. Refined decorative mouldings and chandeliers in the reception rooms are offset with a cosy farmhouse-style kitchen with an old stone fireplace, an Aga range cooker, and access to the terrace outside. Guests can while away the hours playing snooker in the billiards room or curled up in a chair the library among wall-to-wall bookshelves. High windows along the length of the chateau let the light flood into the spacious rooms, all of which have been beautifully decorated to create a relaxing and uplifting atmosphere. This luxury chateau has all the space and elegance of a castle with the warmth and inviting feel of a home, making it ideal for an enjoyable holiday with family or friends.

Discover the Gers

This luxury rental castle is located in the Gers, at the heart of the Gascony region of south-west France, reputed for its slow-paced life, farmlands and decadent French delicacies such as foie gras and brandy – a foodie’s paradise! And what better way to enjoy the full experience than to visit the producers? Follow the vineyard route to meet Armagnac winemakers or the Foie Gras route of goose breeders to uncover the secrets of their art and taste their wares?

The surrounding area has more than its fair share of France’s most beautiful villages, mediaeval castles and cloistered churches to explore. Start with nearby La Romieu and the gothic Collegiate Church of St Peter which is a UNESCO heritage site. It has two towers and a double staircase designed to ensure an easy escape in the event of invasion! Other picturesque villages worth seeing are Larressingle, Fources and Montréal-de-Gers. Finally, the relaxed and unspoilt countryside in this corner of France lends itself perfectly to walking, cycling and horse-riding.

This property can comfortably accommodate three families with children or five couples.
