Bohemian Costa Brava is a recently renovated property that combines easy bohemian living with style and low-key luxury. This holiday home by the sea in Spain has been designed to blend into its natural surroundings. The wood, stone and water slot perfectly into the green hillside with unassuming discretion to create the perfect backdrop for a relaxed holiday in the sun. Switch off from the world outside in style and recharge your batteries

The décor is a mix of its Costa Brava roots and travels to far-flung destinations, packed with hints of tales to be told. It has an uplifting nomad vibe and is dotted with fabrics, colours and patterns from different times and places.

The ground floor comprises a living room, dining room and kitchen, along with two en-suite bedrooms. The living areas feature white walls teamed with wicker, natural fibre floor coverings and colourful ethnic cushions reminiscent of faraway places. Sliding glass doors open seamlessly onto the terrace where you are treated to sweeping views of the Mediterranean Sea below.

The spacious outdoor area nestles into the surrounding shrubland with safari-style canvas deckchairs and a shaded outdoor dining table. A long overflow swimming pool is not only a luxury to swim in but good for the environment too; it’s treated naturally without using salt or chlorine.

The lower level of this rental villa houses a further three bedrooms, two doubles and a children's room that can sleep four children in two sets of bunk beds. All the bedrooms are en-suite and have a sea view and access to the outdoor terrace.
The mezzanine overlooking the living room can be used as a bedroom, although it tends to be used as a TV lounge area.
The bedrooms of the villa are air-conditioned to ensure that your stay on the Mediterranean Sea Catalan coast is comfortable.
The villa is ideally located and the beaches are within walking distance, making for a laidback, hassle-free holiday.

The Costa Brava stretches for over 200 kilometres from the French border down the east coast of Spain. Brava means rugged and the beauty of this wild coastal region owes much of its appeal to its beautiful scenery.

The Cap de Creus natural park starts inland and plunges down to the sea which is dotted with secret creeks and romantic coves. Add in endless shine, blue skies and sparkling waters and you’ve got the ingredients for a fabulous seaside holiday. The region also has an eventful history with tales of legendary people and places, and is packed with character.

This beachfront holiday home can comfortably accommodate 2 to 3 families or 5 couples.

Important: The pool at this villa does not have a security system as they are not required by Spanish law.

Holiday home with a swimming pool in Spain: things to see and do nearby

- Cap de Creus natural park: This Spanish rental villa by the sea is in the northern part of the Costa Brava, not far from the French border. Cap de Creus is maritime and land nature reserve set between the Pyrenees mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the most beautiful natural parks on the Costa Brava and can be explored on bike, kayak, foot, horseback or even paragliding! But if that all sounds too energetic then you can also just enjoy meandering along the multiple beaches and coves nearby. Just a short walk down the hill will bring you to pretty coves covered with pebbles rather than sand, like most of the region's beaches. Our tip: remember to bring water because there are no shops or services. Enjoy the crystal-clear waters at the Sant Lluis, Del Jonquet and Guillola beaches, which are ideal for swimming. However, you won't be alone, and one of them has been taken over by naturists (good to know!).

- Picturesque villages: The Costa Brava coastline is dotted with delightful little fishing villages. From El Port de la Selva to Barcelona, passing through Cadaqués, Portlliga and, further on, l'Escala, Llafranc, or Palamos, the Catalan coast of Catalonia is packed with quaint mediaeval towns to explore and enjoy.

- Cadaqués is best known for its bohemian chic atmosphere, just like your Chic Villas property. Stroll through the steep streets of the old town and follow the white houses to the 16th-century Santa Maria church for great views of the town and the bay. The houses on the seafront are more recent and inspired by Cuban architecture. They were built by the inhabitants of Cadaqués when they returned from their voyage to America where they went to seek their fortune. This is part of what gives Cadaqués such a bright and joyous atmosphere. And there is always something happening. Other than the buzzing bar, restaurants and entertainment, June sees a celebration entitled “An American in Cadaqués” when the locals dress in period costumes to re-enact the arrival of the returning “Americans”, who also brought music back with them. The story is deeply rooted in the town’s identity and adds to the festive atmosphere.

- Food and wine: Nothing says holidays more than tasting delicious local specialities. As a fishing village, seafood figures high on the menu and is a big part of the character of the region. Anchovies are the staple, eaten simply on a slice of garlic bread, but it doesn’t stop there; shrimp, squid, mussels, lionfish, sardines, sea bream and lobster are all in plentiful supply. This isn’t paella region though – that originated from Valencia. It was originally made of rice and meat but each region has enriched it with local resources such as prawns on the Costa Brava. Another fish specialty, Suquet de Peix de Roses and Catalan zarzuela.

Catalonia is also a producer of wine, and the largest Spanish region to produce superior quality wines, including AOC Emporda, the region of this property. Vines are part of the Costa Brava landscape and its identity. The wine route begins about fifty kilometres further north and runs along the coast. The sun-drenched climate produces sweet and very quaffable white, red and rosé wines. Visit the vineyards by the sea for a memorable experience, against a backdrop of the sea and the local olive groves swathed in the inimitable Mediterranean light.

- Art: The iconic natural light in the Mediterranean regions has attracted and inspired many famous painters. Just as France drew Cézanne to Aix-en-Provence and Van Gogh to Saint-Rémy, Catalonia is known as the home of Dali, who was born and died here. Naturally, his work lives on; visit the museum of his home in Port-Lligat, the theatre in Figueras or the castle in Pubol. He painted many canvases of Cadaqués in his early days before he ventured into Futurism, Cubism and the Surrealism for which he is best known. Other painters, such as Picasso visited Cadaqués. The region still has a strong artistic vibe and continues to attract many painters from all backgrounds, perpetuating a bohemian, artistic and cosmopolitan atmosphere.
