Château Luxury Heritage - Rental of a chateau with heated pool in France

Château Luxury Heritage is a very special property in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of Western France. The castle’s origins date back to the end of the 1st millennium, and its hilltop location ensures sweeping views of the surrounding world-famous vineyards. Relax, unwind and enjoy a taste of the good life in an historic property and French authentic wine estate.

The castle comprises two wings.

The west wing cuts an imposing figure. Fortress walls, over one and a half metres thick, stave off the beating summer sun to offer a cool respite inside. The castle was built over several periods, from its origins to the late Middle Ages.

The more recent east wing is bright, with large openings on each side.

Both wings open out onto a gallery of stone arcades, perfect for dining in the shade. Above the gallery is a vast reception room with a magnificent fireplace and a piano. This expansive space can be used for putting on shows or projections, yoga sessions or as an artist's studio.

The interior decor of this prestigious rental property has evolved over the centuries, with new trends being incorporated from various eras up until current times.

The west-wing living spaces have been aesthetically designed and have an inviting feel about them. The furniture has been sourced from various places, and the soft, smooth lines cleverly offset ancient doors, timber beams, terracotta tiles and original fireplaces.

The east-wing living area has a more pared down and modern style, with timeless colours and shades of blue or terracotta, teamed with designer furniture.

Both wings have a modern and fully-fitted kitchen with a wood and anthracite grey décor that blends in perfectly with the castle’s style and extends into a dining room. Each of the dining rooms has its own style and layout.

Upstairs, there are nine spacious suites and bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The theme is chic and sophisticated, combining designer furniture, elegant colour palettes, originality and comfort; everything you would hope for from a luxury holiday château in France.

The outdoor spaces are split into various areas. On the west side is the swimming pool, a beautiful spot for relaxing in style which is surrounded by a low stone wall, and two outdoor seating areas that are perfect for enjoying a glass of wine in the evening.  On the east side there is a terrace, with its panoramic views of the rolling countryside and the surrounding vineyards.

This property is situated in the heart of southwest France’s wine region between Libourne and Bergerac, with the Bordeaux vineyards to the west and the Dordogne wine region to the east. There are shops and restaurants in the rural villages within a 15 km radius, and plenty of lovely places to visit in both directions.

This chateau with a swimming pool for rent can comfortably accommodate four to five families or eight couples.

The Bordeaux Wine Route

Choose from the five itineraries of the Bordeaux wine route to discover the well-known villages and châteaux. Médoc, Estuaire de la Garonne, Entre-Deux-Mers, Graves, Pomerol... You know the names, now you get to explore the places!

Saint-Emilion is located on the Route du Patrimoine itinerary (Heritage Route) and is a 20-minute drive from the property. It is a small picturesque medieval village, known worldwide for its prestigious red wine and noteworthy sights, some of which are underground. Saint-Emilion has a strong historical and religious past and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the old town, the famous underground passages, the largest monolithic church in Europe, the vineyards, the Tour du Roy, the Cordeliers’ cloister and the collegiate church.

There’s lots to see in Libourne. Place Abel-Surchamp is a town square with arcades and home to the town hall, the fine arts museum and grand 16th-century merchants' houses. Wander around Roman-style churches, the old pigeon houses, and picturesque mills by day, and stroll along the quays by night; the view of the sunset at the point where the Isle and Dordogne rivers meet is simply magnificent. Take your pick of pavement cafés to enjoy a drink or dinner in a memorable setting.

Bergerac, on the banks of the Dordogne, has remarkable historic buildings. Officially appointed a Town of Art and History, its authenticity remains intact with narrow streets and half-timbered houses. One of the best parts is the old town. You will also want to visit the main square, Saint Jacques church, the Bergerac museum, and the bastides, and take a trip on a traditional Gabarre boat.

Bordeaux is an obvious choice during your stay in the region. Must-sees include Saint André’s cathedral, the Pey-Berland tower, the water mirror on Place de la Bourse, Place des Quinconces, the Cité du Vin wine centre, the Pont de Pierre and the Grande Cloche.

Culinary specialities

Food is a big thing in south-west France. Naturally, the local dishes are best paired with Bordeaux wines! Every town and village seems to have its own speciality. Make sure you taste alose – a herring-type fish, Pauillac lamb, Blayais asparagus, Bazas beef, and Perigord truffles and cèpe mushrooms. When it comes to sweet treats, don’t miss Bordeaux’s famous bouchons and canelés cakes.

Leisure activities in the region

Wine tourism has become a thing, and visitors can take their pick of packages at the countless wine estates in the region, which produce 57 appellations. Lovers of Bordeaux and other premium French wines will enjoy finding out more about how they are made.

Horseriding is popular and riding clubs and legends abound. The horse Jappeloup put the region on the map when he won the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988, and a film was made about him in 2013 in which Guillaume Canet played the role of Pierre Durand, his rider.

Golf is also the pride of the area with the Grand Emilionnais Golf Club ranked 5th best in France in 2018/2019 by the American magazine Golf Digest. The family that founded the club has won numerous titles, one of them against Tiger Woods in 1990.

To get a different view of the region, you can meander down the Dordogne in a canoe. With its calm and clear waters, the Dordogne is recognised as a world biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Finally, why not venture a little further for a day trip to the Atlantic Ocean? The Dune du Pilat, Arcachon Bay and Cap-Ferret are less than two hours’ drive away.
