The sea provides the Costa Blanca with much of the ingredients that provide its dishes with so much flavour. Typical dishes include tasty and flavourful Bouillabaisse-style stews and arroz a banda, a rice dish accompanied by a fish soup. As for paella, you will find it in the form of a fideuà, where vermicelli replaces the rice to transform the culinary experience.
You should also take the time to discover espencat which mixes red peppers, aubergines and cod. For snacking, why not try tapas, or grab some Embutidos, which are cured dry sausages, for the road? Several AOC registered products come from the Costa Blanca including cherries from Alicante, Vinalopó grape, loquats from Callosa, and turrón from Jijona.
If you really want to surprise your taste buds, you have the choice between several Michelin starred restaurants. Head to Denia, named Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO, for world-class red prawns.
The region’s award-winning wines are equally famous, ranging from refreshing Moscatel rosé to the unique semi-sweet red Fondillon which often served with dessert. The wine trail, from Pinoso to Marina Alta and El Comtat, makes a great day out, visiting the local vineyards along the way. The Wines and spirits from Alicante are also reputed.
