Masia Vina y Playa is a 18th-century farmhouse that oozes authentic Catalan character.

Modern coastline accommodation is not the only way to holiday in Spain; the Spanish are also excellent at renovating traditional buildings that stylishly blend old stone character and easy modern living. Like many others in the region, this hillside property has been restored to luxury criteria. Green tourism is on the rise and Masia Vina y Playa offers the double perk of a seaside holiday and a relaxing countryside location among the mountains and vineyards.

With seven suites – two of which can accommodate an extra bed - the property can sleep up to sixteen guests without compromising on privacy or space. All the suites are spacious, comfortable and air-conditioned. High ceilings, exposed beams and stonework, and white walls provide the uplifting feel that hallmarks a relaxing holiday in Spain.

Three cosy lounges on the ground floor ensure that each guest has space to play or relax as they wish, while the 45 m² dining room lends itself to larger gatherings and can seat up to 30 people. A beautiful contemporary kitchen has everything needed to cater for large groups (two dishwashers, two refrigerators, two ovens) for hassle-free organisation. The rustic soul of the property has been maintained throughout the house and merges effortlessly with modern style to create a welcoming feel.

This theme continues outside. Masia Vina y Playa is a typical Catalan building with its whitewashed façade, wrought-iron balconies, tiled roof and arched entrance door.

The property is nestled in 20-hectares of grounds. Various relaxation areas have been created and the swimming pool, which is lit up in blue at night, promises a magical atmosphere when the sun goes down. From its slightly elevated position, the villa overlooks a landscape of limestone plateaus, scrublands, vineyards and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance. As if the earthy, natural setting in a thriving wine region wasn’t enough, this is also a well-known seaside destination. A lively resort and beaches are just a few kilometres down the road. The nearest village is a two-kilometre walk, and the nearest town is six kilometres away.

Important: the pool at this villa does not have a security system as they are not required by Spanish law.

Beaches and water sports

Beaches and water sports: this is exactly what you’d hope for when you rent a luxury villa on the Costa Brava! This stretch of the Mediterranean coastline has lots to offer. The beaches are plentiful and beautiful. Take your pick from the fifteen or so beaches with different atmospheres; choose from a town centre or isolated location, family beaches, or a nudist beach... Try them all to find the best fit for you! Everything has been designed for a great beach experience. Access for people with reduced mobility is often facilitated and the beaches have good facilities: toilets, showers, beach bars, first aid, and rental services for deckchairs, parasols, kayaks, paddles, pedaloes, and more. It’s family-friendly, multicultural, cosmopolitan and very lively.

Hike to the top of La Morella

For something a little more energetic, the Garraf natural park offers a total change of scenery. There are lots of signposted walking trails that will help you to explore the 12,000-hectare nature reserve. Whether you’re hiking or mountain biking, there is something for all levels of fitness and expertise. The views are breathtaking, epecially from the top of La Morella, almost 600 metres above the sea. There are some buildings along the way, such as the Ermita de la Trinitat.

Wine tasting

The Penedes vineyards are ideal for hiking or cycling along the "Ruta del Vi y Cava". The region counts some 140 producers and produces mostly white wines, some reds and sparkling cava, the emblem of Catalonia. The wine museum VINSUM in Vilafranca del Pinedes is an interesting place to visit and very informative. It is in the old part of the town, opposite the Santa Maria Basilica – another must visit. Museum visits finish with wine tasting, though it’s worth knowing that there are 20 wineries within 20 kilometres of your rental, some of which are within walking distance.

Activities for the whole family

Other nearby activities include a golf course (Golf de Terramar), a tennis court (2 km) and a horse riding club (3 km).

The Port Aventura theme park, is a 70 km drive from the villa and is a great day out for children young and old. It’s on the way to Tarragona, so is the perfect opportunity to stop off and visit the historic town. Barcelona, meanwhile, is all about art – the buildings designed by Gaudi are a real attraction.
