The house was entirely refurbished recently to ensure top notch facilities and the level of comfort and convenience that turns a getaway into a real holiday. The house and the surrounding countryside will delight young and old alike. What better way to appreciate the neighbouring simple pleasures of life than escaping to the great outdoors to switch off and recharge?

The first sight to greet you on your arrival is the grounds.

Covering an impressive 50 hectares and more of countryside right in the heart of France, the grounds provide a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding hills and fields. More than just a scenic backdrop, you’ll be at one with nature, taking in the trees, flowers and wildlife as you stroll around the estate. There are two lakes that can be used for swimming, and rowing boats are also available. You will also enjoyed a the fenced-off heated swimming pool, a table tennis and football pitch with goal cages and many other equipements and activities.

The property itself is welcoming and almost beckons you inside. An esplanade opens out onto a view of rolling hills and meadows. Each section of the house has its own colour scheme as a way to separate the various areas and create a bright, inviting atmosphere.

The shared areas are spacious and functional, with a vast 40 m² living room and a purpose-built cinema room for entertainment. The large kitchen is perfect for catering for groups – it has a double oven, two dishwashers and two refrigerators – and the dining room can seat 20 guests. All these areas have lovely views of the garden and the hills in the distance. They have been decorated in a style that highlights period features and adds light and warmth and a dash of sophistication. Colour features throughout: dark blue walls set off ornamental mouldings and creates a stylish harmony. Beautiful furniture and decorative items make a statement and create a happy home atmosphere.

The eight family suites and bedrooms upstairs ooze old-fashioned style and modern-day practicality and have been designed with families in mind.

Colour is again prominent throughout, and each family can choose the style and layout that suits them best, from low-key to something more lively. The overall feel is cosy, quirky and stylish. All suites have their own bathroom with bath and/or shower and a toilet, and the two-bedroom suites are ideal for families with young children. The sleeping areas also bear the hallmark of the owners’ taste for harmonious hues and nice things. It makes the perfect bolthole for an easy and enjoyable family holiday.

This large manor house is in the countryside but close to all amenities. The nearest village is a walkable 15 minutes away, and a small town is a 10-minute drive: the perfect logistics for groups of twenty or so guests! Read on for our ideas of things to see and do nearby.

The outdoor activities

Get out in nature and back into shape! Forests, meadows, rivers and lakes make this the perfect place to fill up on fresh air and get back to roots. There are plenty of outdoor activities on offer without even leaving the property: pick from hiking, jogging, mountain biking, canoeing or swimming. 

Natural landscapes

Nature abounds here, and the region leverages its green tourism opportunities while preserving the environment. Chabrières forest and Les Monts de Guéret offer a great choice of hiking, horseriding and mountain bike trails. Whether you’re a seasoned sportsperson or looking for easy family activities, you’re in th right place. Enjoy a trip to the zoo at Les Loups de Chabrières, or head to a lake: L’étang du Cheix not far from your rental and Vassivière Lake is also within easy reach. There really is something for everyone. The scenery of the plateau between Limousin and Millevaches is reminiscent of a Canadian landscape and a French seaside resort! And the Volcanoes of Auvergne are just under two hours away. The castles of the region

Visiting the region’s castles and quaint villages. Don’t miss Château de la Chezotte, Château de Villementeix, and Château de Boussac, or the picturesque villages of La Celle-Dunoise - located in the heart of the Valley of the Painters – or Bénévent l'Abbaye and Chambon sur Voueze. The region is steeped in history and traditional crafts. Visit the Aubusson Tapestry, classified as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, or the Pouligny tile workshop.

The thermal baths

Another tradition here is thermal baths. You’re about 50 kilometres from Evaux-les-Bains, a pretty little town and the only spa town in the Limousin region.

The local gastronomy

Finally, no trip to France would be complete with the local markets and great food and wine. Limousin beef is famous for being among the best. Buy it directly from the farmers or from Les Marchés de Creuse, a group of 22 markets that adhere to a quality charter. Other local delicacies include Limousin potato pie, Creusois cake with hazelnuts, and cherry clafoutis. Buy your produce fresh at the local market then head back to the house to prep and enjoy a mouth-watering meal all together. If there’s one thing France does well, it’s the simple pleasures in life! Barbecue your succulent meat outside and tuck in under the pergola. And if you don’t feel like cooking yourself, head to one of the restaurants in the village nearby, or drive another ten minutes for an even wider choice.
