Authentic Loire Valley - A manor house for rent classified as a Historical Monument

Authentic Loire Valley is a historic property, built as the manor house to a grand 12th-century castle and is overflowing with much sought-after cachet. It is set in the scenic Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional nature park and is well located for discovering the region’s unique architectural, cultural and historical heritage.

The theme throughout the property is that of upscale rustic chic. On the ground floor, the living room has traditional features such as exposed beams, stone walls, wooden doors and a large open fireplace, nicely set off by modern touches to create an elegant and refined feel. The colour scheme is natural, soft and soothing; words that can also be used to describe the melodious birdsong that guests will enjoy throughout the day. The watchword here is nature, and everything has been designed to embrace simplicity while capturing the comfort of luxury living in a cleverly lowkey way.

The kitchen is practical and uncluttered, matching stainless steel with stone for a rustic yet modern style. A statement pink light fixture in the dining room cuts through the traditional cottage atmosphere to add a resolutely current slant to the country-chic setting. Alternatively, meals can be enjoyed on the terrace, where an idyllic outdoor dining area provides a romantic backdrop amid the colours and fragrances of carefully tended plants and flowers.

This country cottage has three cosy bedrooms; one downstairs and two upstairs. The downstairs bedroom has a traditional stone floor like in the lounge, is spacious and equipped with twin beds. Upstairs, each of the two  bedrooms have their own welcoming style. The flooring is either old terracotta or oak wood and one has a fireplace. Stone walls and exposed timber beams bring the type of cachet that epitomises a typical French country cottage.

All bedrooms have their own modern en-suite bathroom, recently renovated in mineral hues in keeping with the natural, earthy tones of the property.

The garden of this Loire Valley holiday home is stunning. Along with glimpses of the castle at the bottom of the garden, the huge grounds span almost thirty hectares and are composed of a variety of themed spaces, including a French garden, a Zen meditation garden with a water feature, and a vegetable garden, interspersed with mature trees and scented blooms throughout. The estate also has a heated swimming pool and a tennis court which are open at certain times.

Authentic Loire Valley can accommodate a family of six, or three couples.

Visit the famous villages and castles of the Loire Valley

Azay-Le-Rideau is one of the most famous castles in the Loire Valley. It is as picturesque on the outside as it is prestigious on the inside! Enjoy the grounds and the stunning architecture then retrace the history of France with an audio or multimedia tour.

Langeais Castle dates back to the late 10th century. It was rebuilt by Louis XI in 1465 and is a listed historical monument, as are the ruins of the dungeon. It is a magnificent castle and is open to visitors all year round.

Villandry castle is highly reputed for its beautiful and impeccably-tended flower gardens. Built on the banks of the Loire River in the 16th century, the chateau’s estate is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The gardens are spread over three levels and inspired by French and Andalusian influence, with each telling its own story. Walk up to the lookout point for a great view.

The royal fortress of Chinon is a unique medieval experience in the Loire Valley. The castle is surrounded by the Vienne River and vineyards, and offers a variety of themed visits that will keep the whole family happy. Choose from guided tours, an augmented reality experience, a children's trail and even an escape game. Lots of family activities are laid on during the school holidays.

Tours and Richelieu. The historic city of Tours is a lovely place, with plenty of history, culture and wine tasting. Also worth a visit is the town of Richelieu. It was founded by Cardinal Richelieu in the 17th century and is surrounded by ramparts and moats. Learn all about the town’s history and view the Cardinal’s furniture and tapestries at the Art and History museum.

La Loire à vélo and other activities

There are several bicycle hire outlets centres which are great for exploring the extensive local cycle routes. Pack a picnic and set off to discover the Loire Valley’s stunning landscapes. There is a horse riding centre and pony club near the property as well which budding or experienced equestrians will love. Finally,  why not hire a canoe to get an entirely different view of the scenery from the Loire River ?

Food and wine

The Loire Valley has a delicious array of foodie offerings. Local delicacies include goat's cheese, pork rillettes and rillons, balzacienne tart, andouillette sausage, nougat, pears and stuffed kiln-baked bread fouées. Naturally, they are best when paired with the local wines! The Touraine wine region produces a very drinkable and well-rounded red Chinon, and Bourgueil, which comes in red and rosé varieties and can be light and fruity or full-bodied.
