Sweet Little Cap-Ferret – Charming villa rental near the beach

This rental villa in Cap-Ferret is a little gem! Small but perfectly formed and brimming with charm, it can sleep two to three people, making it an ideal bolthole for a select few.

It has been lovingly designed, with soft hues and lots of glass letting the light flood in. The rooms look out onto an enclosed south-facing garden. It’s a little haven and perfect for unwinding and recharging.

Cap-Ferret’s beautiful beaches are just a short walk from the villa, as is the Conche du Mimbeau oyster pool. Shops and restaurants are also on the doorstep, ideal for strolling around the village and living like the locals.

You won’t be needing a car here, and the easiest way to get around is on a bike. If you fancy venturing further afield, a shuttle boat service will take you from the Bélisaire jetty over to Arcachon, or to the Dune of Pilat.

This holiday villa in Cap-Ferret is ideal for a couple and has just enough space for a child as well. However, please note that due to the height of the mezzanine bed area, it is not suitable for a young child (under 7).

Rental villa in Cap-Ferret, things to see and do nearby:

Cap-Ferret is a peninsula that lies between the Atlantic Ocean and Arcachon Bay. It is a popular, highly reputed and slow-paced seaside town.

The beaches

Naturally, there are plenty of beaches. Ocean side, there’s Horizon beach, Truc Vert beach which is flanked by a forest with only a forest road and a cycle path running through it, or Grand Crohot beach a little further down, Bay side, there’s the American beach which has a sailing club, the Centre beach or the Phare beach.

The water sports

The sea makes a great playground – surfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and kitesurfing are just some of the activities on offer.

Alternatively, stay on dry land and explore the region by bike along the headland’s 50 km of cycle paths, or on horseback.

Enjoy the natural sites

Either on land or on sea, the scenery is beautiful. Take a trip – or two – out to the Ile des Oiseaux (the island of birds); once at low tide and again at high tide. It’s a protected nature reserve dotted with the bay’s instantly recognisable tchanqué wooden huts on stilts.

You can also visit the Cap-Ferret lighthouse or admire the stained glass windows of Notre Dame des Flots church. But whatever you do, you’ll invariably end up at La Pointe – the tip of the headland that has a fabulous 180° view of the Dune of Pilat, the Banc D'Arguin nature reserve and the canals between Arcachon Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

On the other side of the bay, Arcachon and the Dune of Pilat – Europe’s tallest sand dune – are not to be missed.

Oyster farming

The peninsula thrives on oyster farming and many oyster huts are open from 11.30 am through to 10.00 pm, serving freshly caught oysters, whelks and shrimps, which are delicious washed down with a glass of dry white wine.

Getting to your rental villa in the Arcachon Bay:

- Bordeaux-Mérignac airport 70 km
- Bordeaux-Saint-Jean train station 80 km
- A630 motorway, then follow the D106 to Lège-Cap-Ferret
